The total number of active drilling rigs for oil and gas in the United States fell again this week, according to new data that Baker Hughes published on Friday, falling by 3. U.S. drillers saw a total loss of rigs this year of 5.

The total rig count fell by 3 to 617 this week, compared to 751 rigs this same time last year.
The number of oil rigs fell by 2 this week. Oil rigs now stand at 506--down by 84 compared to this time last year. The number of gas rigs fell by 1 this week to 109, a loss of 49 active gas rigs from this time last year. Miscellaneous rigs stayed the same at 2.

Meanwhile, U.S. crude oil production stayed the same for the fifth week in a row at an average of 13.1 million bpd for the week ending April 5—down 200,000 bpd from the all-time high of 13.3 million bpd.

The total rig count fell by 3 to 621 this week, compared to 755 rigs this same time last year.
The number of oil rigs fell by 3 this week after falling by 5 in the week prior. Oil rigs now stand at 506--down by 86 compared to this time last year. The number of gas rigs stayed the same this week at 112, a loss of 48 active gas rigs from this time last year. Miscellaneous rigs stayed the same at 3.

Meanwhile, U.S. crude oil production stayed the same again this week at an average of 13.1 million bpd in the week ending March 22, down 200,000 bpd from the all-time high of 13.3 million bpd.

The total rig count fell by 5 to 624 this week, compared to 758 rigs this same time last year.
The number of oil rigs fell by 1 this week after seeing a gain of 6 in the week prior. Oil rigs now stand at 509--down by 84 compared to this time last year. The number of gas rigs also fell this week, by 4 to 112, a loss of 50 active gas rigs from this time last year. Miscellaneous rigs stayed the same at 3.

Meanwhile, U.S. crude oil production stayed the same at an average of 13.1 million bpd in the week ending March 15, down 200,000 bpd from the all-time high of 13.3 million bpd.

The total number of active drilling rigs for oil and gas in the United States fell this week, according to new data that Baker Hughes published on Friday.

The total rig count fell by 7 to 622 this week, compared to 746 rigs this same time last year.
The number of oil rigs fell by 2 this week after rising by 3 in the week prior. Oil rigs now stand at 504--down by 86 compared to this time last year. The number of gas rigs fell again this week by 4 to 115, a loss of 38 active gas rigs from this time last year. Miscellaneous rigs fell by 1 to a total of 3.

Meanwhile, U.S. crude oil production fell to an average of 13.2 million bpd in the week ending March 1, easing off the all-time high of 13.3 million bpd.

Shell begins production from Rydberg project in US Gulf of Mexico

Shell Offshore, a subsidiary of British oil and gas company Shell, has commenced production at Rydberg, a subsea tie-back to the Appomattox production hub in the Gulf of Mexico.

Rydberg is a conventional oil development located in ultra-deepwater in the US, with the Final investment decision (FID) approved in 2022.

The project is located within Mississippi Canyon in the Norphlet Corridor of the US Gulf of Mexico, around 75m (120km) off the coast of Louisiana, in a water depth of about 7,450ft.

The project is producing an estimated 16,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boe/d) at peak.

Rydberg is located in the leases that are operated by Shell, which owns an 80% working interest in the leases while CNOOC has a working interest of 20%.

Rydberg will be developed as a subsea tieback to the Shell-operated Appomattox project, with two production wells with a single insulated 12-mile (19km) flowline with a dynamic umbilical.

Shell deep water executive vice president Rich Howe said: “Rydberg will further boost production in the Norphlet Corridor at Appomattox, which is consistently one of our highest-producing assets.

“As we meet the energy demands of today and the future, we will continue to mature the best opportunities for growth in the Gulf of Mexico.”

Shell was the first operator to bring an asset online in the Norphlet Corridor with Appomattox development, which lies in Mississippi Canyon block 392 and straddles Blocks 391 and 348.

Appomattox project is jointly owned by Shell with 79%, which is also the operator and CNOOC Petroleum Offshore USA, a wholly owned subsidiary of CNOOC with 21%.

Rydberg’s current recoverable resource volumes are estimated at 38 million boe.

The project’s resource volume estimate is currently classified as 2P, under the Society of Petroleum Engineers’ Resource Classification System.

Also, the estimated peak production and current estimated recoverable resources presented above are 100% total gross figures.

Shell claims that its production in the US Gulf of Mexico has the lowest GHG intensity in the world, compared to other IOGP oil and gas-producing members.

The total rig count rose by 5 to 626 this week, compared to 753 rigs this same time last year.
The number of oil rigs rose by 6 this week after falling by 2 in the week prior. Oil rigs now stand at 503--down by 97 compared to this time last year. The number of gas rigs fell by 1 this week to 120, a loss of 31 active gas rigs from this time last year. Miscellaneous rigs stayed at 3.

Meanwhile, U.S. crude oil production stayed the same at an average 13.3 million bpd in the week ending February 16, hovering at their all-time high level.

EIA Estimates USA Crude Oil Output Hit All Time High In December

In its latest short term energy outlook (STEO), which was released last week, the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) estimated that U.S. crude oil production reached “an all-time high in December of more than 13.3 million barrels per day”.

The EIA noted in the STEO, however, that crude oil production fell to 12.6 million barrels per day in January “because of shut-ins related to cold weather”.

“We forecast production will return to almost 13.3 million barrels per day in February but then decrease slightly through the middle of 2024 and will not exceed the December 2023 record until February 2025,” the EIA said in the STEO.

In its latest STEO, the EIA highlighted that U.S. crude oil supply averaged 12.93 million barrels per day in 2023, comprising 10.64 million barrels per day from Lower 48 states, excluding the Gulf of Mexico, 1.87 million barrels per day from the Federal Gulf of Mexico, and 0.43 million barrels per day from Alaska.

The organization outlined that the country’s crude oil output averaged 12.63 million barrels per day in the first quarter of 2023, 12.75 million barrels per day in the second quarter, 13.07 million barrels per day in the third quarter, and 13.29 million barrels per day in the fourth quarter.


Looking ahead, the EIA projected in the STEO that U.S. crude oil production would average 13.10 million barrels per day in 2024, comprising 10.75 million barrels per day from Lower 48 states, excluding the Gulf of Mexico, 1.94 million barrels per day from the Federal Gulf of Mexico, and 0.41 million barrels per day from Alaska.

U.S. output is expected to average 13.03 million barrels per day in the first quarter of this year, 13.12 million barrels per day in the second quarter, 13.06 million barrels per day in the third quarter, and 13.18 million barrels per day in the fourth quarter, the report outlined.

Diamondback et Endeavor devraient peser 50 milliards de dollars. À elles deux, les sociétés vont surtout se hisser au rang de troisième producteur de pétrole et de gaz de schiste du bassin permien, cette immense région qui couvre l’ouest du Texas et une partie du Nouveau-Mexique concentre aujourd'hui près de la moitié de la production américaine de pétrole.

Nouvelle étape

Mais cette union marque aussi une nouvelle étape dans la consolidation du secteur aux États-Unis. Les géants, attirés par les opportunités de synergie et donc d'économies, enchainent les acquisitions. Ces derniers mois, Exxon Mobil a racheté l'un des spécialistes du gaz de schiste Pionneer Natural Resources, tandis que Chevron s'est offert son compatriote Hess Corporation.

Les capacités bondissent aux États-Unis

L’objectif est d’extraire toujours plus de pétrole. Les capacités de production aux États-Unis ont bondi ces dernières années. Elles ont atteint un record en novembre : avec plus de 13 millions de barils de produit par jour. De quoi consolider la place des États-Unis, premier producteur mondial de pétrole, loin devant l'Arabie saoudite.

The total rig count fell by 2 to 619 this week, compared to 759 rigs this same time last year.
The number of oil rigs stayed the same this week after rising by 2 last week, staying at 499--down by 100 compared to this time last year. The number of gas rigs fell by 2 this week to 117, a loss of 41 active gas rigs from this time last year. Miscellaneous rigs stayed at 3.

Meanwhile, U.S. crude oil production rose by 700,000 bpd to average 13.0 million bpd in the week ending January 26. The large production increase, however, only came after a 1 million bpd fall in the week prior as a cold snap took production offline. Production rates in the U.S. are still down by 200,000 bpd since the start of the year.
