Gazprom Neft commissions three new wells at Badra field, Iraq

édité le 10/03/2017

Gazprom Neft Badra — a subsidiary of Gazprom Neft — has commissioned three new production wells (BD-2, P-14 and P-10) at the Badra field in Iraq. Total production across all three wells is running at 23,000 barrels per day, with daily production at the field totalling 77,000 barrels. All three wells are operating under free-flow production.

Gazprom Neft commissioned four new wells at the Badra field in 2016, producing a total 30,500 barrels per day. Completion of well P-19 (running to a depth of 4,945 metres, and drilled in 216 days — a record at the Badra field) is currently ongoing, with the well expected to be commissioned in early March.

Pursuant to the agreed field development programme, Gazprom Neft is continuing the construction of oil and gas infrastructure. Pre-commissioning works are currently ongoing at the gas treatment plant, with piping connections being installed, as well as electrical fixtures and automatic control systems. The first stage of this project will be commissioned in 1Q2017 and the second in 3Q2017.

Exxon to Sign Over Part of Iraq Oilfield Stake to Petrochina

BAGHDAD, Nov 28 (Reuters) / Rigzone

U.S. oil major Exxon Mobil will hand over a 25 percent stake in Iraq's West Qurna-1 oilfield project to China's biggest energy company PetroChina on Thursday, Iraq's deputy prime minister for energy said.

Iraq said in August that Exxon was selling more than half of its 60 percent holding in the field. Along with the stake going to PetroChina, 10 percent is expected to be sold to Indonesia's Pertamina, according to Iraq.

A statement from Hussain al-Shahristani's office said he had met with PetroChina's Iraq chief, Wang Shali, on Wednesday and that Thursday "will witness the signing of the final agreement between her company and Exxon Mobil", giving the Chinese company a 25 percent stake in the field.

The statement did not mention Pertamina.

Exxon is the operator of the giant oilfield and last year offered to sell its entire stake after a dispute with Baghdad over contracts it signed with Iraq's autonomous Kurdistan region - deals the central government rejects as illegal.

It later committed to further investment at the field - now pumping almost 500,000 barrels a day - and stepped back from making a full exit. Tough terms and slim margins on Iraq's service-fee contracts are drawbacks to investment in southern Iraq.

Exxon Selling Iraqi Oilfield Stakes To PetroChina, Pertamina-Iraq Minister

Rigzone August 23, 2013

NEW DELHI, Aug 23 (Reuters) – Exxon Mobil is selling stakes it controls in Iraq's West Qurna-1 oilfield to China's PetroChina and Indonesia's Pertamina, the country's oil minister confirmed on Friday.

"25 percent to Petro China and 10 percent to Pertamina," Abdul Kareem Luaibi told Reuters on the sidelines of a ministerial meeting here.

He added that the deal would be done "maybe after two to three weeks".

Exxon Mobil has a 60 percent stake currently in the giant oilfield and is the operator.

Company and industry sources said on Thursday that China and Indonesia were set to join Exxon Mobil's $50 billion project to develop the field.

Le parapétrolier Chinois CPECC gagne un contrat de 548 millions de $ avec le pétrolier Chinois CNPC pour developper le champs de Halfaya.
China's CPECC Wins $547.9M Iraqi Oilfield Contract

July 4, 2013 Rigzone

China Petroleum Engineering & Construction Corporation (CPECC) has won a $547.95 million service contract to develop Iraq's Halfaya oilfield, Iraq's cabinet said on Wednesday.

CPECC, which is affiliated to China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), will handle engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning work at the oilfield, which is forecast to produce 535,000 barrels of oil per day (bpd) in 2017, Iraq's oil ministry has said.

Iraq signed a contract in 2010 to develop Halfaya with CNPC, France's Total, and Malaysian state company Petronas for a fee of $1.40 per barrel. CNPC has a 37.5 percent interest in the consortium.

State-owned China National Petroleum Corp said last year the first phase of the Halfaya field had started operating and had a production capacity of 100,000 barrels per day.

BP's Investment in Iraq to Reach $5B by 2016

May 22, 2013 Rigzone

ABU DHABI

U.K. oil major BP plc plans to increase the production capacity at the Rumaila oilfield, the largest in Iraq, by 750,000 barrels per day by 2017, and aims to increase its spending in the country to $5 billion a year from the current $2.6 billion by 2016, a senior executive said Wednesday.

"We are doing about 1.4 million barrels a day now from Rumaila... We have a plan to add about 100,000 barrels a day a year, over the next three years," said Andrew McAuslan, Vice President of negotiations, upstream business development at BP.

By 2017, BP will bring online an additional 450,000 bpd in a new large scale facilitiy at the field, he said.

BP invested about $2 billion in Iraq last year and plans to up its spending to $2.6-2.7 billion in 2013, Mr. McAuslan told reporters in Abu Dhabi.

BP has said it alone would invest some $15 billion in the project across the course of the 20-year contract.

Development of Rumaila, which holds oil reserves of 17 billion barrels, was awarded to a consortium consisting of BP and China National Petroleum Corp., known as CNPC. They signed a technical service contract with Iraq in November 2009 to develop the field.

The BP-led consortium had pledged to almost triple production at the field to 2.85 million barrels a day in seven years after the start of work in the project in 2010. BP holds a 38% stake in the venture, while CNPC has 37% and Iraq's state South Oil Co. owns the remaining 25%. The field was producing 1.06 million barrels a day before the joint venture.

Iraq Says It Will Auction Giant Nassiriya Oil Field

April 08, 2013 Rigzone

AMMAN - The Iraqi oil ministry is planning to auction the giant Nassiriya oil field in southern Iraq on Dec. 19, a senior ministry official said Monday at a workshop held in Amman, Jordan, for international companies interested in the billion dollar project.

Abdul Mahdy al-Ameedi, head of the ministry's petroleum contracts and licensing directorate, or PCLD, said a total of 52 international oil companies would be able to take part in the bidding round for the integrated project--developing a $4.4 billion oil field and building a 300,000 barrel-a-day refinery nearby.

The ministry has accepted seven new international oil companies, including France's Total, to join some 45 firms that had already qualified for the previous bidding rounds. The ministry is also processing documents from a further five companies, Mr. Ameedi said.

The newly-qualified firms are: Russia's Zarubezhneft, China's CNPCI, U.S.'s Brown Energy, India's Reliance Industries, Russia's OAO Lukoil Holdings, Total and Japan's JGC and Tonen General, Mr. Ameedi said. The five firms whose qualifications are in process include Daelim, Essar, GS E&C, Pak-Arab Refining and Maurel et Prom, he said.

Mr. Ameedi briefed the companies on a preliminary draft contract prepared by the PCLD. According to the draft, terms will be different from the technical service contract awarded to companies during previous bidding rounds for oil and gas fields. The changes include amendments to investor costs and a pay per barrel remuneration fee.

Unlike the previous contract, the new one will offer investors a share in project revenues, but only when production begins. The ministry will pay recovery costs from the date of commencement of work, which differs from the previous contract where the costs were only paid when the contractor raised production by 10%.

Investors would have to pay some 35% taxes on the profit they made from Nassiriya project, the same amount as in previous deals.

Iraq Invites Bidders for Nassiriya Oil Field

23 Oct 2012 Rigzone

Iraq's oil ministry Tuesday invited international companies to bid to develop the giant Nassiriya oil field in southern Iraq and build a nearby refinery in a package deal.

"The project contemplates the integrated development of the (4+) billion barrel Nassiriya oil field in Thi-Qar province together with the construction and operation of a new 300,000 barrels-a-day refinery," the ministry said in a statement on its web site.

Potential bidders would join upstream companies already qualified by the ministry to develop the project, it said.

Earlier this year, the head of the oil ministry's petroleum contracts and licensing directorate, Abdul Mahdy al-Ameedi, said some 47 prequalified upstream firms will be invited to compete for the project.

The contract would come in a package that would include the construction of a refinery and will have more favorable terms than the previous service contracts that Iraq signed with international oil companies, he said, without giving further details.

A consortium of three Japanese companies comprising JX Holding Inc., Inpex Corp. and JGC Corp. had negotiated the Nassiriya oil field for three years. But negotiations were called off at the last minute in 2009 over financing reasons..

Nassiriya's proven crude oil reserves of more than 4.4 billion barrels make it an attractive investment

Iraq's three aging main refineries--Dura, Baiji, and Basra--are producing at 70% of capacity, equivalent to around 560,000 barrels a day.

Iraq hopes to increase its refining capacity to at least 750,000 barrels a day this year.

China starts oil field operation in southern Iraq

BAGHDAD -- Iraq and China's National Petroleum Corporation jointly launched the inauguration ceremony for the Halfaya oil field in the southern Maysan province on Wednesday.

Iraq's Deputy Prime Minister Hussein Al-Shahristani, the Oil Minister Abdul Kareem Luaibi and the Chinese ambassador Ni Jian participated in the ceremony.

The field will produce 70,000 barrels of oil a day and five million metric tons per year.

Foreign investment is crucial for war-weary Iraq to develop its oil-rich land. Oil revenues make up nearly 95 percent of the Iraqi government's annual budget.

Iraq signs gas deal with Pakistani energy firm

Baghdad, July 16 — Iraq has signed a deal with a Pakistani energy company to explore for natural gas in eastern Iraq, Xinhua reported.

"The Iraqi oil ministry is signing a preliminary contract with Pakistan Petroleum to explore for natural gas in Iraq's eastern provinces of Diyala and Wasit," Asim Jihad, head of the ministry's media office, was quoted as saying.

In May, the Pakistani company won exploration concession during Iraq's fourth energy auction.

The company is due to work in a 6,000 square km block in Diyala and Wasit that have presumed natural gas reserves.

It won the contract by offering $5.38 per barrel of oil equivalent.

Iraq's fourth energy auction offered 12 new oil and gas exploration blocks, but only three contracts were awarded to foreign energy companies.

The Iraqi oil ministry also awarded two contracts to Kuwait Energy and Russia's Lukoil.

The three deals are, however, needed to be approved by the Iraqi cabinet before signing the final agreements with the foreign companies.

Iraq has proven reserves of 112 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, but because of poor infrastructure of the oil and gas industries, the country is only producing 1.5 billion cubic feet a day.

The country depends on oil revenues for nearly 95 percent of its budget.

In 2010, Iraq announced its proven oil reserves had increased to 143.1 billion barrels, rising from the previous estimate of 115 billion barrels.
