Gaz: "important gisement" en Mer Noire (Roumanie)

Trois groupes énergétiques qui conduisent ensemble des forages dans le secteur roumain de la Mer noire ont découvert un "important gisement de gaz", pouvant dépasser 30 milliards de mètres cubes, a annoncé mercredi le roumain Romgaz.

Le groupe russe Lukoil, l'américain Pan Atlantic Petroleum et Romgaz "ont achevé courant octobre les travaux d'exploration sur le bloc Trident, qui ont abouti à la découverte d'un important gisement de gaz", indique Romgaz dans un communiqué.
Selon les données préliminaires recueillies durant ces forages, "la sonde a rencontré un gisement mesurant 46 mètres d'épaisseur" et s'étalant sur environ 39 km2.

Si ces données étaient confirmées par de nouveaux forages, plus approfondis, "les réserves de gaz pourraient dépasser 30 milliards de m3", selon la même source. Cette découverte pourrait couvrir les besoins en gaz de la Roumanie pendant près de trois ans.

En 2012, les groupes américain ExxonMobil et autrichien OMV Petrom avaient pour leur part annoncé la découverte dans le secteur roumain de la mer Noire d'un gisement de gaz "allant de 42 à 84 milliards de m3", dont l'extraction devrait commencer "au plus tôt vers la fin de cette décennie".

La Roumanie dispose de gisements connus estimés à environ 110 milliards de m3 de gaz, dont elle extrait en moyenne 11 milliards de m3 par an, selon l'Agence pour les ressources minérales.

Total Makes Major Gas Find in Barents Sea

Total EP Norge AS, operator of production license 535, has completed the drilling of wildcat well 7225/3-1. The well, which proved gas, was drilled in the Barents Sea, about 250 kilometers north of Melkoya.

The primary exploration target for the well was to prove petroleum in Triassic reservoir rocks (Snadd and Kobbe formations). The secondary exploration target was to prove petroleum in the Middle Jurassic (Sto formation), Triassic (Havert formation) and Permian (Bjarmeland formation).

Gas was proven both in intervals from the Jurassic and the Triassic: in the Kobbe formation with a 400-meter interval in rocks of varying reservoir quality, and in the Havert formation in two intervals of 80 and 90 meters, respectively, in poorly developed reservoir rocks. Gas was also encountered in the Sto and Snadd formations.

Preliminary estimates place the size of the discovery between 10 and 50 billion standard cubic meters (Sm3) of recoverable gas.

A successful formation test has been carried out in the upper part of the Kobbe formation. The maximum production rate was 180 000 Sm3 gas per flow day through a 44/64-inch nozzle. The gas contains only small amounts of CO2, H2S and N2. The results from the well will be included in the ongoing evaluation of "Norvarg" to establish the size and extent of the gas discoveries.

The well was drilled in 376 meters of water and is the first exploration well in production license 535. The license was awarded in the 20th licensing round in 2009.

The well was drilled to a vertical depth of 4150 meters below the sea surface, and was terminated in the Orn formation in Permian rocks. The well will now be permanently plugged and abandoned.

Well 7225/3-1 was drilled by West Phoenix, which will now go on to drill for Statoil Petroleum AS on the Troll field in the North Sea.

RWE : découverte significative de gaz en mer de Norvège.

(CercleFinance.com) - RWE a fait part ce matin d'une découverte “significative” de gaz effectuée en mer de Norvège, non loin du champ d'Heidrun, par sa filiale d'exploration RWE Dea Norge.

La découverte est intervenue lors de la fin des opérations de forage du puits d'exploration 6507/07-14S, situé à 15 km au Nord-Ouest du champ d'Heidrun et à 35 km au Sud de celui de Skarv, en mer de Norvège.

RWE Dea Norge précise que du gaz a été trouvé après 150 mètres de forage. “Des études préliminaires estiment l'importance de la poche de gaz récupérable de 5 à 18 milliards de mètres-cubes”, écrit RWE qui ajoute que les possibilités de découvertes supplémentaires paraissent favorables.

Les premiers tests effectués ont débouché sur une production de 1,2 million de mètres-cubes de gaz / jour.

Earlier this week it was challenged by a Danish warship whose captain is enforcing a 500-metre exclusion zone around the two wells.

Danes block Greenpeace vessel in Arctici

A Danish warship today confronted a Greenpeace ship which is on a mission to target "dangerous" deep sea oil drilling sites, the environmental group claimed.


The incident happened in the freezing seas off Greenland as the protest ship Esperanza approached one of the world's most controversial oil drilling projects operated by the British company Cairn Energy, said Greenpeace.


The Greenpeace ship left London 12 days ago vowing to challenge the oil industry at the site of a dangerous deepwater drilling project in the wake of the BP disaster in the Gulf of Mexico, but did not reveal its intended location until today when the ship arrived in the seas west of Disko Island in the Arctic.


The Danish government sent the Vaedderen, a Thetis-class warship, to protect two drilling sites being operated by Britain's Cairn Energy, said the environmental group tonight, adding that the Esperanza has been warned that the ship will be raided and the captain arrested if it breaches a security zone set up in the area.


Greenpeace campaigner Leila Deen, speaking from the Esperanza, said: "To see a huge drilling rig in this beautiful and fragile environment is deeply shocking. The tragic oil disasters in the Gulf and in China this year clearly illustrate the need to go beyond oil.


"Companies like Cairn need to leave the Arctic alone and start developing the clean tools that will actually help us get off fossil fuels for good.


"Climate change is already having an impact on millions of people around the world but oil companies are completely ignoring the new reality we face. That's why we're here to deliver a message to them in person - go home now."


More than 30 crew are on board the Esperanza, which was once a Russian firefighting vessel and is equipped with several months' supplies, boats and a helicopter.

Cairn Encouraged by Gas Find Offshore Greenland

Cairn struck a cautiously optimistic tone about the prospects for its oil exploration offshore Greenland, saying Tuesday it had discovered an uncommercial volume of natural gas in its first well, T8-1, which is being drilled by the Stena Forth drillship. The company also said it found hints of further hydrocarbon resources in the area.

"I am encouraged that we have early indications of a working hydrocarbon system with our first well in Greenland, confirming our belief in the exploration potential," said Cairn Chief Executive Bill Gammell.

Cairn remains committed to a multiyear drilling program in the region, Gammell said. "We are drilling in a basin the size of the North Sea and in a block the size of the Niger Delta. It's a marathon, not a sprint," he told reporters on a conference call.

There are high expectations in the oil industry that Cairn's drilling campaign will prove Greenland to be a major new resource area. Exploration there is also increasingly important for Cairn's future after the company decided to sell the bulk of its stake in Cairn India to mining company Vedanta Resources for up to $8.48 billion.

Cairn's gas find doesn't have commercial potential, said the company's deputy CEO and exploration director Mike Watts. However, the type of gas found is often associated with oil or condensate, so it is encouraging, he added.

Brazil's OGX says onshore find may hold 15 TCF gas

Eni commenced production from the Annamaria B gas platform, which is flowing at a rate of 800,000 cm/d, but is expected to reach about 1.2 MMcm/d. The confirmed and estimated reserves of the field comprise 10 Bcm. Gas is transported via an underwater pipeline to the Fano treatment plant, approximately 43 miles (70 kilometers) away, and is fed into the national distribution network. The Annamaria field lies in 197 feet (60 meters) of water and extends between Italy and Croatia, roughly 37 miles (60 kilometers) from the coast. Annamaria is the first cross-border field producing in the Adriatic Sea, and is considered the most important gas field to come onstream since 1998. A twin platform, Annamaria A, is also located on the field and is producing roughly 800,000 cm/d. Eni is the operator of the field, owning a 90% interest.

Total annonce le lancement du développement des champs gaziers de Laggan et Tormore, situés en mer à l’ouest des îles Shetland. Cette décision est soumise à l’accord du département britannique de l’Énergie et du Changement Climatique (DECC).

Total annonce par ailleurs l’acquisition des participations de Chevron North Sea Limited (10%) et d’ENI UK Limited (20%) dans Laggan et Tormore, portant ainsi la participation du Groupe à 80% dans ce projet, aux côtés de son partenaire DONG E&P (UK) Ltd.

Yves-Louis Darricarrère, directeur général Exploration & Production, a déclaré : « Total a démontré sa capacité à développer avec succès des projets à fort contenu technologique et poursuit dans cette voie avec le développement des champs de Laggan et Tormore, situés dans l’un des environnements les plus complexes du plateau continental britannique. Leur mise en production nécessitera un investissement d’environ 2,5 milliards de livres. La décision de développer ce projet confirme l’engagement de Total à poursuivre ses investissements en Mer du Nord, et ses ambitions sur le long terme de contribuer à l’approvisionnement énergétique du Royaume-Uni ».
Ce projet sous-marin d’envergure et les infrastructures associées permettront de développer de nouvelles opportunités dans la zone ouest des Shetland pour le Groupe et également pour l’ensemble de l’industrie.


Les gisements de gaz de Laggan et Tormore, situés à près de 140 kilomètres à l’ouest des îles Shetland par une profondeur d’eau de 600 mètres, sur les blocs 206/1a, 205/4b et 205/5a, recèlent des réserves globales estimées à environ 230 millions de barils équivalents pétrole (bep). En pic, le niveau de production des deux gisements sera de 500 millions de pieds cube par jour, auquel s’ajoutera la production des condensats associés (soit une production totale de 93 000 bep par jour).

Les travaux de construction de l’infrastructure gazière offshore ainsi que d’une nouvelle usine de traitement de gaz à Sullom Voe, sur les îles Shetland, commenceront très prochainement. L’entrée en production est prévue pour 2014.
Après traitement dans l’usine de Sullom Voe, le gaz des champs de Laggan et Tormore sera transporté par une canalisation nouvelle de 230 kilomètres rejoignant le gazoduc de Frigg UK, lequel l’acheminera jusqu’au terminal gazier de Saint Fergus, situé au nord d’Aberdeen.
