Air Liquide JV Invests $450M To Supply Saudi Refinery
French industrial gases company Air Liquide SA (AI.FR) said Monday it will invest $450 million with its local joint-venture partners to supply Saudi Arabian Oil Co. with hydrogen for its planned Yanbu refinery.
Air Liquide owns 55% of Air Liquide Arabia, a local joint-venture, of which two Saudi companies--Industrialization and Energy Services Company and Rushaid Petroleum Investment Company--hold the remainder.
The new hydrogen producing facilities will enter service in 2014, Air Liquide said.
Air Liquide Arabia will finance the full investment, through a mix of new capital and loans, Air Liquide Senior Executive Vice-President Pierre Dufour told reporters on a conference call.
Air Liquide will contribute 55% of the new capital that Air Liquide Arabia will require, he said, adding that talks with banks haven't finished yet so the split between new equity capital and loans isn't yet known.
But neither Air Liquide nor its partners will need to increase their capital to fund the project, Dufour said.
The return on capital employed for the project will be in line with the 11%-12% that is typical for Air Liquide, he also told journalists.
The supply contract is for 20 years, with two options to extend it for five years each time, so to up to 30 years, he said.
