EXXON découvre du pétrole au Guyana en offshore prés de la frontière avec le Venezuela.

C 'est dans un bloc ou les eaux sont contestées depuis un siècle par l' état Vénézuélien.

Guyana says Exxon discovers oil in offshore block

May 7, 2015

Exxon Mobil Corp has discovered oil off the coast of Guyana, the company and the South American nation's government said on Thursday, potentially inflaming a long-running territorial dispute with neighboring Venezuela.

The discovery is located in the Stabroek Block off a border region that is claimed by Venezuela in a territorial controversy dating back more than a century, even though the area functions in practice as Guyanese territory.

The government said it is "optimistic of a hydrocarbon discovery of commercial quantities which will further transform Guyana's economy."

Exxon's country manager for Guyana said the company was still evaluating the commercial viability of the discovery.

A Venezuelan foreign ministry official said the ministry was aware of the situation but had no immediate comment.

The exploration project is led by Exxon, with Hess Corp and a subsidiary of China National Offshore Oil Company also participating.

Exxon signed an agreement with Guyana to explore the 26,800 square kilometer (10,350 square mile) block, 160 to 320 kilometers (100 to 200 miles) offshore, in 1999.

Guyana in 2013 said Venezuela's navy evicted a ship used by Texas-based Anadarko Petroleum Corp to explore for oil in the offshore Roraima block. Guyana called the incident a security threat and Venezuela described it as a violation of its territory. (Writing by Brian Ellsworth; Editing by Dan Grebler)

Exxon’s Guyana Oil Discovery May Be 12 Times Larger Than Economy

Andrew Rosati Joe Carroll July 21, 2015

An Exxon Mobil Corp. discovery in the Atlantic Ocean off Guyana may hold oil and natural gas riches 12 times more valuable than the nation’s entire economic output.

The Liza-1 well, which probably holds the equivalent of more than 700 million barrels of oil, may begin producing crude by the end of the decade, Raphael Trotman, the South American country’s minister of governance, said in an interview Monday. The prospect would be on par with a recent Exxon find at the Hadrian formation in the Gulf of Mexico, and would be worth about $40 billion at today’s international crude price.

Guyana produces no oil and its gross domestic product of $3.23 billion in 2014 ranked between Burundi and Swaziland, according to the World Bank. Exxon, which has a market value of $341 billion, has declined to provide an estimate for Liza-1 since describing the discovery as “significant” in a May 20 statement.

“A find of this magnitude for a country like ours, which sits on the lower end of the scale of countries in this hemisphere, this could be transformational,” Trotman said. “From my sense, from speaking to experts outside of Exxon, it has to be something in excess of 700 million barrels.”

Exxon, which began drilling the well in March, said it found a 295-foot (90-meter) column of oil- and gas-soaked rock in a subsea region known as Stabroek Block. The well is 120 miles (193 kilometers) offshore and 5,710 feet beneath the sea surface.

ExxonMobil, Hess, CNOOC Announce $4.4 Billion Offshore Guyana Development

by— Oil & Gas 360 June 16, 2017

Phase 1 will produce 450 MMBO

ExxonMobil, Hess and CNOOC today announced FID for Phase 1 development of the Liza field in offshore Guyana.

Initially discovered in May 2015, the Liza field is located about 120 miles offshore from Guyana, in about 5,700 feet of water. Liza is in the Stabroek Area, a large offshore lease block owned by the three partner companies. Hess reports that Stabroek is 6.6 million acres in size, or 1,150 times the size of a standard GOM block.

Image

120 MBOPD peak production planned

Phase 1 of development of the Liza field will involve a total of 17 wells, drilled from four drill centers. Eight wells will produce oil, while six will inject water into the reservoir and three will inject gas. A floating production, storage and offloading vessel will process production. ExxonMobil estimates Phase 1 will have peak production around 120 MBOPD. In total, the operation will recover about 450 MMBO. ExxonMobil reports that Phase 1 will cost just over $4.4 billion, including $1.2 billion for the FPSO.

Based on Hess’ reports of its share of development costs (not including the FPSO cost), the companies will spend about $370 million this year, $830 million in 2018 and $1.1 billion in 2019. The remaining $900 million will be spent in 2020 and 2021, but the timing is less certain. First oil is expected in 2020, less than five years after initial discovery.

Further discoveries support more development

Additional exploratory work is in progress, as the Stabroek block is large enough to hold many different plays. ExxonMobil reports that the recently-drilled Liza-4 well encountered nearly 200 feet of “high-quality, oil-bearing sandstone reservoirs. While the area explored by Liza-4 will not be developed in Phase 1, the successful result will be a major factor in considering Phase 2. With the success of Liza-4, Hess estimates gross discovered recoverable resource for the Stabroek block is between 2 and 2.5 billion barrels.

ExxonMobil is the operator of the Stabroek block, and holds a 45% interest. Hess owns a 30% stake, while CNOOC owns 25%.

Exxon taps SBM Offshore for Liza FPSO job

ExxonMobil has awarded a contract to SBM Offshore to supply an FPSO unit for its giant Liza discovery offshore Guyana.

Image

According to ExxonMobil, this floating production storage and offloading vessel deal marks a key step in moving the Liza field toward first production.

SBM Offshore, the world’s largest FPSO provider, will carry out front end engineering and design for the FPSO, and, subject to a final investment decision on the project in 2017, will construct, install and operate the vessel.

The Liza field has a potential resource estimate in excess of 1 billion oil-equivalent barrels and is located in the Stabroek block, which covers almost 27,000 square kilometers, approximately 193 kilometers offshore Guyana.

ExxonMobil submitted an application for a production license and its initial development plan for the Liza field in early December. The development plan, submitted to the Guyana Ministry of Natural Resources, includes development drilling, operation of the FPSO, and subsea, umbilical, riser and flowline systems.

ExxonMobil’s subsidiary Esso Exploration and Production Guyana Limited is the operator and holds a 45 percent interest in the Stabroek block. Hess Guyana Exploration Ltd. holds a 30 percent interest, and CNOOC Nexen Petroleum Guyana Limited holds a 25 percent interest.

ExxonMobil fait un sixiéme forage positif de puits au Guyana.
ExxonMobil Reports More Offshore Guyana Success

by Rigzone Staff January 05, 2018

Exxon Mobil Corp. on Friday reported positive test results from its Ranger-1 exploration well, marking its sixth oil discovery offshore Guyana since 2015.

“This latest success operating in Guyana’s significant water depths illustrates our ultra deepwater and carbonate exploration capabilities,” ExxonMobil Exploration Co. President Steve Greenlee said in a written statement. “This discovery proves a new play concept for the 6.6 million acre Stabroek Block, and adds further value to our growing Guyana portfolio.”

The Ranger-1 well discovery follows other world-class discoveries at Liza, Payara, Snoek, Liza Deep and Turbot, which together hold an estimated 3.2 billion recoverable oil-equivalent barrels, ExxonMobil stated. The company said that its affiliate, Esso Exploration and Production Guyana Ltd., began drilling Ranger-1 on Nov. 5, 2017, and encountered approximately 230 feet (70 meters) of high-quality, oil-bearing carbonate reservoir. Ranger-1 was drilled to 21,161 feet (6,450 meters) depth in 8,973 feet (2,735 meters) of water, the company added.

Once the Stena Carron drillship completes the Ranger-1 well, it will move to the Pacora prospect 4 miles from the Payara discovery, ExxonMobil continued. The company noted that it plans additional exploration drilling on the Stabroek Block for 2018, including potential appraisal drilling at the Ranger discovery.

Esso Exploration and Production Guyana Ltd. is operator and holds a 45-percent interest in the Stabroek Block, which encompasses 6.6 million acres (26,800 square kilometers). Hess Guyana Exploration Ltd. and CNOOC Nexen Petroleum Guyana Ltd. hold 30-percent and 25-percent stakes, respectively.

“The Ranger oil discovery demonstrates that the petroleum system is working in a new geologic play in the Guyana Basin more than 60 miles northwest of Liza, and reaffirms the extraordinary exploration potential of the Stabroek Block,” Hess Corp. CEO John Hess said in a separate announcement Friday. “We believe the investment opportunity in Guyana offers industry-leading financial returns and will create significant value for our shareholders for many years to come.”

C'est le jackpot pour le Guyana :
Guyana Can Become Richest Corner of the Continent

by Valerie Jones|Rigzone Staff|Friday, August 31, 2018

Following Exxon Mobil Corp.’s latest Hammerhead-1 discovery, the company’s ninth discovery offshore Guyana, it’s believed the country will create the greatest value of any offshore basin since the downturn, according to Maria Cortez, Wood Mackenzie’s Latin American upstream senior research manager.

Cortez referred to the Hammerhead discovery as a “another play-opener” that adds to more than four billion barrels of oil equivalent of reserves through an exploration program that has a current success rate of 82 percent.

She said with almost 18 prospects left to pursue in the Stabroek block, the project is bound to get bigger. However, she does note challenges to the “high-risk exploration” such as the need for infrastructure and ensuring good natural resource governance.

Guyana must first develop institutional and regulatory framework in order to effectively manage the emerging sector, noted Cortez.

“Guyana has hit the jackpot,” Cortez said. “If this small South American nation with a population of about 750,000 can properly manage the billions of dollars of revenue about to come its way, it may become the richest corner of the continent.”
