https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%89ner ... Su%C3%A8de

lock-out pending...

Sweden set for (adding) 2.3 GW wind power in 2019

May 2, 2019 evwind

Wind energy plants with a combined generation capacity of more than 1 GW were approved in Sweden during the first quarter of 2019, putting the Nordic country on track to double its wind farm generation capacity by 2022.

Final investment decisions were made on 1225 MW worth of wind turbines projects in the period from January to March, up from 550 MW on-year, according to the Swedish Wind Energy Association.

The association expects 2,329 MW of new capacity to be added in the 2019 calendar year, bringing total capacity to 9,724 MW by year-end.

Swedish wind power production currently stands at 19 TWh and SWEA expects it to rise to 38 TWh by 2022.

“Wind power is now a full-fledged technology that can be built without support,” said SWEA chief executive Charlotte Unger Larson.

Among the biggest wind farm projects currently under development is Enercon’s 844 MW Maximus in the country’s north, which is slated to go live by the third quarter of 2021.

Sweden Is Set To Ditch Wind Subsidies

By Tsvetana Paraskova - Oct 23, 2019

Sweden, the leader in the share of renewable energy use in the European Union (EU), targets to eliminate subsidies for onshore wind farms by the end of 2021, at around the same time as neighboring Norway, Sweden’s Energy Minister Anders Ygeman told Reuters on Wednesday.

Onshore wind developments are already profitable without subsidies, the minister said on the sidelines of a wind power conference in Stockholm.

Declining technology costs and battery prices across the board have made unsubsidized onshore wind and solar power the cheapest options for electricity generation in major economies, including India’s and China’s. Solar and wind power are now cheaper than coal in most parts of the world.

Sweden generates more than 54 percent of its electricity from renewable sources on a sustainable basis. As early as in 2012, the Scandinavian country reached its 2020 target to have 50 percent of energy use from renewables. The country is targeting 100 percent renewable electricity generation by 2040.

Hydropower and bioenergy are the top sources of renewable energy in Sweden, but wind generation has soared over the past decade and a half. Between 2000 and 2017, Sweden’s wind power generation increased from 0.5 terrawatt hours (TWh) to 17.5 TWh.

As many large wind projects come online, Sweden is expected to see wind power generation doubling its share in the country’s electricity generation from 12 percent now to 25 percent in 2022, Charlotte Unger, chief executive of the Swedish Wind Energy Association, said earlier this year.

According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), Sweden is a global leader in the energy transition as it is building a low-carbon economy with the lowest share of fossil fuels in its primary energy supply among all IEA member countries.

“Sweden has been successful in its energy transformation through market-based policies that focus on energy efficiency and renewable energy, notably CO2 taxation, which has helped drive decarbonisation across several sectors,” the IEA said in April this year.

Sweden Looks To Ban Sale Of Fossil Fuel-Powered Cars By 2030

By Tsvetana Paraskova - Dec 20, 2019

Sweden is getting serious about banning the sale of new gasoline and diesel powered cars by 2030 as the government commissioned an inquiry on Friday into how the Scandinavian country could best phase out fossil fuels and ban sales of fossil fuel-powered vehicles.

The report commissioned by the Swedish government today is a follow-up to the Statement of Government Policy from January this year, which said that “No new petrol- or diesel-driven cars will be sold after 2030. This is how we will reduce the major climate emissions from the transport sector.”

The government policy from January also stated that “Prospecting and new exploitation of coal, oil and fossil gas will be prohibited.”

Commenting on today’s commissioning of the report, Per Bolund, Minister for Financial Markets and Housing, and member of the Green Party, said in a statement:

“Sweden will be the world’s first fossil-free welfare nation. The transport sector is responsible for a third of Sweden’s emissions of greenhouse gases, and thus has a significant role to play in the climate transition.”

The report should be completed by February 1, 2021, and should analyze the conditions for introducing a national ban on sales of new gasoline and diesel cars, and how to exempt vehicles running on renewable fuels and electric hybrid vehicles from such a ban. The report will also analyze how an EU-wide ban on sales of new gasoline and diesel cars could be implemented and conditions for phasing out fossil fuels in the EU, Sweden said today.

Sweden, which has a population of around 10 million residents and is therefore a small market for vehicles, is one of the global leaders in terms of electric vehicles (EVs) market share. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), Sweden is third globally in terms of EV market share with 8 percent, after Norway’s 46-percent EV share and Iceland’s 17-percent share of electric cars.

Sweden is also the leader in the share of renewable energy use in the EU, and targets to eliminate subsidies for onshore wind farms by the end of 2021. Sweden generates more than 54 percent of its electricity from renewable sources on a sustainable basis. As early as in 2012, the Scandinavian country reached its 2020 target to have 50 percent of energy use from renewables. The country is targeting 100 percent renewable electricity generation by 2040.

Sweden exits coal two years early
The Nordic nation is now the third European country to have waved goodbye to coal for power generation. Another 11 European states have made plans to follow suit over the next decade.

APRIL 22, 2020 MARIAN WILLUHN

Sweden has joined Europe’s scramble to decommission coal. Power utility Stockholm Exergi has announced the permanent closure of coal-fired co-generation plant KVV6, in Hjorthagen, eastern Stockholm.

The Scandinavian country had planned to rid itself of coal by 2022 but appears to have decommissioned its facilities two years early.

The KVV6 plant has two boiler rooms, one of which was shut before the winter. The other facility was kept operational as a power reserve but a mild winter meant Stockholm Exergi did not have to use it and the utility has decided to shutter the plant for good.

Stockholm Exergi said it will now focus on carbon-negative approaches. “We continue to work on the transition to climate-neutral solutions and also solutions to create negative emissions,” said chief executive Anders Egelrud. “Here, the researchers agree: We don’t only need to reduce our emissions to zero but also … to develop techniques to specifically reduce carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.”

Race to the line

With the KVV6 plant closure announced on Thursday, the move appeared to come a day ahead of the closure of Austria’s last coal plant, the Mellach district heating plant, on Friday. Belgium was the first European nation to exit coal, in 2016.

U.K. lobby group Europe Beyond Coal praised the moves, claiming they demonstrated the fate awaiting coal in Europe.

“With Sweden going coal-free in the same week as Austria, the downward trajectory of coal in Europe is clear,” said campaign director Kathrin Gutmann. “Against the backdrop of the serious health challenges we are currently facing, leaving coal behind in exchange for renewables is the right decision and will repay us in kind with improved health, climate protection and more resilient economies.”

Other European nations plan to exit coal in the next few years. France expects to shut its last coal-fired facility by 2022, Slovakia and Portugal in 2023, the U.K. in 2024 and Ireland and Italy a year later. Euro neighbors Greece, the Netherlands, Finland, Hungary and Denmark also plan to ditch coal-fired power generation this decade, in line with Paris Agreement climate commitments.

Wind energy in Sweden, advances 500 MW offshore wind farm

July 4, 2020 evwind

Magnora has teamed up with Swedish wind power company to speed up the development “Sydkustens Vind”, a 500 MW shallow-water offshore wind project in the Baltic Sea, off southern Sweden.

“The decision follows several studies performed during the spring of 2020 which have provided the answers we were looking for. We are now more certain that this is a good project commercially and technically feasible,” says Haakon Alfstad, Investment Director in Magnora, Executive Chairman in Kustvind AB.

The project now enters its development phase, and physical studies of the seabed and project area in general will also start. Compared to the original schedule, the project has been accelerated by ten months.

The project is located roughly 8 km offshore the southern coast of Sweden. It has a 500-megawatt (MW) potential and will have a production capacity of 2 TWh annually, and will be able to serve 250.000 homes with electricity.
