India hits 150 GW solar milestone
The country added around 44.6 GW of new PV capacity in fiscal year 2026, according to new figures released by JMK Research.

A new report by JMK Research reveales that India added around 44.6 GW of solar and 6 GW of wind capacity in fiscal year 2026. Solar and wind installations increased 87.2% and 45.6%, respectively, year-on-year.
Fiscal year 2026 refers to the period from April 1, 2025 to March 31, 2026.
With these additions, India’s total installed renewable energy capacity reached 275 GW as of March 31, 2026. Solar power accounts for around 55% with 150.26 GW of total renewable energy capacity, followed by wind at 20%, large hydro at 19%, biomass at 4%, and small hydro at 2%.

India installed 15.3 GW of solar capacity in the first quarter of 2026 – the highest quarterly addition on record – representing a 143% year-on-year increase, according to Mercom India.

Un risque de surcapacités dans l’industrie photovoltaïque indienne
La capacité de production de modules photovoltaïques de l’Inde a bondi à 233 GW, dépassant la demande intérieure et faisant chuter le taux d’utilisation des usines à 35-40 %. Un nouveau rapport de l’IEEFA et de JMK Research alerte sur le risque que la poursuite des investissements dans de nouvelles capacités accentue la pression sur les marges et augmente le risque d’actifs échoués.

L’Inde est devenue le deuxième pôle mondial de fabrication de modules photovoltaïques, avec 233 GW de capacités installées en juin 2026. Mais l’augmentation des capacités de production a été plus rapide que celle de la demande, si bien que les usines ne fonctionnent actuellement qu’à 35 à 40 % de leur capacité, contre 50 à 65 % généralement nécessaires pour assurer une exploitation durable.
