Sudair Solar Power Plant

The Sudair solar power project is a 1.5GW photovoltaic (PV) solar farm being built in the Riyadh province of Saudi Arabia. It will be the biggest solar power plant in the Kingdom, upon completion.

Sudair One Renewable Energy Company, a special purpose vehicle (SPV), is developing the project with an estimated investment of SAR3.4bn ($906m).

The consortium partners of the Sudair solar independent power project (IPP) include ACWA Power (35%), Water and Electricity Holding (Badeel, 35%), and Saudi Aramco Power Company (SAPCO, 30%).

Badeel is a portfolio company of the Public Investments Fund (PIF), the sovereign wealth fund of Saudi Arabia that also holds a 50% stake in ACWA Power, while SAPCO is a wholly-owned subsidiary of state-owned Saudi Aramco.



The Sudair solar project was launched during the inauguration ceremony of the 300MW Sakaka solar project in the Al Jouf province in April 2021, which is the first utility-scale solar power project in Saudi Arabia.

The project partners reached financial closure for the 1.5GW solar farm in August 2021. The project is expected to start generating electricity in 2022.

The Sudair PV solar power plant is being developed on a 30.2km2 site within the Sudair industrial city, approximately 150km away from Saudi Arabia’s capital Riyadh.

The project site lies approximately 25km south-east of Al Majmahh, in the Riyadh province of Saudi Arabia.

The project will utilise bi-facial PV solar panels on pile-driven mounting structures. The solar panels will be equipped with tracking technology and an automatic robotic cleaning system.

Other key components of the project will include inverters, transformers, and an electrical substation for power transmission.

Saudi Arabia’s Al Masane Al Kobra Mining Co is set to raise up to 1.25 billion riyals ($333.18 million) in its initial public offering, after the company disclosed it indicative price range on Wednesday.


The offering’s price range was set at 58 riyals to 63 riyals a share, according to a bourse filing. The company is selling 19.8 million shares, representing a 30% stake to investors.

Al Masane Al Kobra, also known as Amak, is a miner which produces copper, zinc, silver, gold and other metals, according to its website.

Saudi Arabia has seen a surge of IPOs since it listed oil giant Saudi Aramco in a record $29.4 billion listing in 2019.

The country’s bourse operator Tadawul, which was also listed last year, said in December it had 50 applications from companies for IPOs this year and is considering whether to allow blank-cheque companies, known as SPACs, to list.

Saudi Arabia approves 1-gigawatt of new solar projects

Saudi Arabia awarded solar power projects with a total capacity of 1 Gigawatts on March 7, as the world’s largest oil exporter looks to diversify its domestic power mix away from hydrocarbons.

The Saudi Power Procurement Company signed 25-year power purchase agreements for a 700- megawatt plant with Ar Rass Solar Energy Company, which is owned by a consortium led by Acwa Power. SPIC and WEHC are other members of the consortium led by Saudi Arabia’s utility developer.

The solar project, which will be built in the central Al Qassim region of the country, is estimated to cost $450 million.

The state-backed procurement company signed the second agreement for a 300 megawatt solar plant that was awarded to a consortium led by Chinese company Jinko Power’s regional subsidiaries. The project will be in built in the Saad region in Riyadh at a cost of $213 million.

Saudi Arabia plans to add renewable energy projects with a total capacity of around 15 GW in 2022 and 2023, according to the country’s energy minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman.

Jinko Power Technology Co., Ltd, (the “Company” or “JinkoPower” (601778.SH) announced today that it was awarded the Saad 300MWp Solar PV Project in the recent public auction for Round 3 Category “B” solar PV projects by Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Energy.

The Saad 300MWp project (the “Project”) is to be located in Central Province, approximately 80 kms from Riyadh. Electricity generated from the Project will be acquired by Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC) through a 25-year power purchase agreement. The construction is scheduled to spread over 2022 to 2023.

The plant will use bifacial solar panels, the latest technology that will receive solar irradiation on both the front and backside of the panels, thus increasing energy generation efficiency. Once operational, the plant is expected to reduce Riyadh’s CO2 emissions by more than 0.5 million metric tons per year, equivalent to removing approximately 100,000 cars from the road.

Saudi Aramco Facility Fire ‘Under Control’

A fire that broke out as a result of a Houthi missile strike on a Saudi Aramco oil storage facility in Jeddah earlier today is now under control, according to Saudi officials, with experts indicating that any potential damage to this domestic-use storage facility and distribution plant will have no impact on the Kingdom’s crude oil exports.

According to media reports, a huge plume of smoke was seen above the oil facility after the attack, which was part of a larger barrage of missiles.

“The Saudi Aramco facility on fire in Jeddah appears to be the company’s so-called ‘North Jeddah Bulk Point’ – that’s a storage and fuel distribution center for the Saudi ‘domestic’ refined products market and won’t affect export,” Javier Blas, energy and commodities columnist at Bloomberg, said on Twitter.

In an official statement, the Saudi-led coalition on Yemen claimed that Saudi Arabia’s air defense forces destroyed seven drones and missiles launched by the Houthis.

A Houthi spokesperson said that its comment about the attack would be issued in the coming hours.

L'Arabie saoudite va autoriser un million de pèlerins à La Mecque

L'Arabie saoudite a annoncé samedi qu'elle allait autoriser un million de musulmans, saoudiens ou venant du monde entier, à participer cette année au pèlerinage de l'hajj, un chiffre en nette hausse par rapport aux années précédentes, marquées par l'épidémie de coronavirus. Plusieurs conditions sanitaires seront toutefois à remplir.

C'est une excellente nouvelle pour le monde musulman. Après deux années compliquées en raison du coronavirus, la Mecque va de nouveau pouvoir accueillir ses pèlerins. Le ministère de l'hajj, pèlerinage annuel à La Mecque, "a autorisé un million de pèlerins, étrangers ou nationaux, à accomplir l'hajj cette année", a-t-il annoncé dans un communiqué.

Le gouvernement veut assurer la sécurité des pèlerins "tout en veillant à ce qu'un maximum de musulmans dans le monde puissent accomplir l'hajj", poursuit le communiqué.

Plusieurs conditions sanitaires à remplir

L'un des cinq piliers de l'islam, l'hajj doit être accompli par tous les musulmans qui en ont les moyens au moins une fois dans leur vie. Habituellement l'un des plus grands rassemblements religieux au monde, environ 2,5 millions de personnes y ont participé en 2019. Après le début de la pandémie en 2020, les autorités saoudiennes n'ont autorisé que 1.000 pèlerins à y participer. L'année suivante, elles ont autorisé 60.000 résidents entièrement vaccinés choisis par tirage au sort.

Ces restrictions ont alimenté le ressentiment des musulmans de l'étranger qui n'ont pas été autorisés à participer. Selon l'annonce faite samedi, l'hajj de cette année sera limité aux pèlerins vaccinés âgés de moins de 65 ans. Ceux qui viennent de l'extérieur de l'Arabie saoudite devront présenter un test PCR négatif de moins de 72 heures.

Une source de revenus importante pour l'Arabie Saoudite
L'hajj consiste en une série de rites religieux accomplis pendant cinq jours dans la ville la plus sacrée de l'islam, La Mecque, et dans les régions environnantes de l'ouest de l'Arabie saoudite. L'accueil de l'hajj est une question de prestige pour les dirigeants saoudiens, la responsabilité des sites les plus sacrés de l'islam asseyant leur légitimité politique.

Avant la pandémie, le pèlerinage était une source de revenus essentielle pour le royaume, rapportant quelque 12 milliards de dollars par an. Le royaume d'environ 34 millions d'habitants a enregistré plus de 751.000 cas de coronavirus depuis le début de la pandémie et 9.055 décès, selon les données du ministère de la Santé.

Début mars, il a annoncé la levée de la plupart des restrictions liées au Covid, notamment la distanciation sociale dans les lieux publics et la quarantaine pour les arrivants vaccinés, tandis que les masques ne sont désormais obligatoires que dans les lieux fermés.

Arabie: le PIB en hausse de près de 10% au premier trimestre, tiré par le pétrole

L'Arabie saoudite a enregistré son taux de croissance le plus important en dix ans, avec une hausse de 9,6% au premier trimestre 2022 par rapport à la même période l'an dernier, grâce à l'essor du secteur pétrolier.

"Les activités pétrolières ont permis au produit intérieur brut (PIB) réel de réaliser le taux de croissance le plus élevé de ces dix dernières années, à 9,6% au premier trimestre 2022", a indiqué l'Autorité statistique saoudienne dans ses premières estimations publiées dimanche.

Le secteur pétrolier a enregistré une hausse de 20,4% au premier trimestre comparé au premier trimestre 2021, tandis que les activités non pétrolières ont progressé de 3,7%, a précisé la même source.

Les données pour le trimestre 2022 sont toutefois "encore incomplètes" et pourront être révisées, a-t-elle ajouté.

La guerre en Ukraine et la flambée des prix du brut ont été une aubaine pour les Etats producteurs de pétrole comme l'Arabie saoudite, premier exportateur mondial de brut.

Le PIB du royaume devrait croître de 7,6 % pour l'ensemble de l'année 2022, selon des prévisions du Fonds monétaire international.

Depuis l'invasion de l'Ukraine par la Russie le 24 février, Ryad a résisté aux demandes des Etats-Unis d'augmenter sa production pour tenter de contenir les prix.

Le royaume saoudien et les Emirats arabes unis ont souligné leur engagement envers l'alliance pétrolière OPEP+, que Ryad et Moscou dirigent, démontrant ainsi leur indépendance croissante par rapport à l'allié historique américain.

Le mois dernier, l'agence de notation Fitch a révisé ses perspectives pour l'Arabie saoudite, prévoyant que le royaume enregistrerait un excédent budgétaire en 2022 pour la première fois depuis 2013.

Mais Fitch a noté que, malgré les efforts de diversification de l'économie, le pétrole représente encore plus de 60% des recettes budgétaires totales de l'Arabie saoudite.

Saudi Arabia’s minister of industry and mineral resources said the ministry has a goal to attract investments worth $32 billion to its mining and minerals sector through nine new projects, state news agency SPA reported.


The projects are aimed at supporting supplies of mineral products to local and international markets, according to SPA.

Minister Bandar Alkhorayef added that the ministry is currently studying 145 applications for exploration licenses from foreign companies, SPA said.

Pétrole : l'Arabie saoudite veut augmenter sa capacité de production au-dessus de 13 millions de barils par jour d'ici à 2027

L'Arabie saoudite prévoit d'augmenter sa capacité de production quotidienne de pétrole de plus d'un million de barils pour dépasser les 13 millions de barils par jour d'ici à début 2027, a indiqué lundi le ministre de l'Energie.

"Le plus probable, c'est de 13,2 à 13,4 (millions de barils par jour), mais fin 2026 ou début 2027", a déclaré le ministre, le prince Abdelaziz ben Salmane, lors d'une conférence à Bahreïn. La production à ce niveau sera maintenue "si le marché le permet", a-t-il ajouté.

La compagnie nationale saoudienne Saudi Aramco avait annoncé en mars 2020 que le ministère de l'Energie lui avait ordonné d'augmenter sa capacité maximale de production de 12 à 13 millions de barils par jour. Aucun calendrier n'avait alors été donné pour ce nouvel objectif.

Premier exportateur mondial de pétrole, l'Arabie saoudite n'a jusqu'ici pas donné suite aux récents appels des Etats-Unis d'augmenter sa production pour tenter de contenir les cours de l'or noir qui ont grimpé en flèche depuis le déclenchement le 24 février de l'offensive militaire russe en Ukraine.

Au début de la guerre, l'Arabie saoudite et les Emirats arabes unis ont souligné leur engagement envers l'Opep+, une organisation qui réunit les 13 membres de l'Opep, menée par l'Arabie saoudite, et dix autres pays exportateurs de pétrole non membres de l'Opep, menés par la Russie. Début mai, les pays membres de l'Opep+ avaient convenu d'une hausse marginale de leur production de pétrole.

Saudi Arabia’s oil exports reached $30 billion in March, the highest in at least six years, driven by a rally in oil prices and rising production.

The value of crude exports, now almost $1 billion a day, increased by 123% year on year, the kingdom’s statistics office said.

Saudi Arabia’s crude production rose to 10.3 million barrels a day in March, with Brent oil prices averaging $112 a barrel. Prices have jumped almost 50% this year, mostly due to the fallout of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

The higher revenues helped the kingdom post a 57.5 billion riyal ($15 billion) budget surplus between January and March. It will be one of the fastest-growing large economies in the world this year, according to the International Monetary Fund.

Saudi Arabia’s top five trading partners were a collection of some of the world’s biggest oil importers: China, India, Japan, followed by South Korea and the US.

Overall exports increased 93% in March to $37.9 billion. The share of oil exports in the total figure stood at 80% in March, up from 70% a year earlier.

The oil-export figures may continue to grow because OPEC+, a 23 nation group of producers led by Saudi Arabia and Russia, is raising production each month under a deal that expires around September.

Joe Biden se rendra d'ici la fin du mois en Arabie saoudite où il rencontrera le prince héritier Mohammed ben Salmane, revenant sur sa promesse de traiter le royaume en "paria" et de ne pas s'adresser au dirigeant controversé, ont rapporté jeudi des médias américains.

Les spéculations sur un tel déplacement en juin allaient bon train, mais selon le New York Times, il est désormais acté: le président des Etats-Unis "a décidé d'aller à Ryad ce mois-ci pour rebâtir les relations avec le royaume pétrolier au moment où il cherche à faire baisser les prix de l'essence dans son pays et à isoler la Russie sur la scène internationale".
