NextDecade finalises EPC contracts with Bechtel for Rio Grande LNG facility expansion
The contracts have been finalised to construct Train 4 and Train 5 at NextDecade’s Rio Grande LNG facility.

Pradeep Bairaboina 13th Jun 2025

NextDecade has announced the completion of a pricing update for its engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract with Bechtel Energy, covering the construction of Train 4 and related infrastructure at the Rio Grande LNG facility.

In addition, NextDecade has entered into a new EPC contract with Bechtel for the development of Train 5 at the same location.

Under the agreement for Train 4, NextDecade will pay Bechtel approximately $4.77bn. The contract’s pricing remains valid until 15 September 2025. The company estimates additional costs, including contingencies and financing fees, to range from $1.8bn to $2bn. For Train 5, the contract is valued at roughly $4.32bn, with similar additional costs anticipated. The pricing for this contract is also valid through 15 September 2025.

Progress towards the final investment decision (FID) for Train 4 is underway, with commercialisation completed and financing efforts initiated.

NextDecade aims to achieve a positive FID for Train 4 within the pricing validity period, depending on securing adequate financing. Regarding Train 5, NextDecade has signed a 20-year LNG Sale and Purchase Agreement with JERA for 2 million tonnes per annum.

The company is working to commercialise an additional 2.5 million tonnes per annum to support a positive FID, with financing processes already started.

In June last year, Aramco and NextDecade revealed that their subsidiaries have signed a non-binding Heads of Agreement (HoA) for a 20-year liquefied natural gas sale and purchase agreement.

This agreement pertains to the offtake from Train 4 at the Rio Grande LNG Facility, located at the Port of Brownsville, Texas.

Cheniere Approves Two More Trains for Corpus Christi LNG Expansion

by Jov Onsat|Rigzone Staff | Wednesday, June 25, 2025

Cheniere Energy Inc. said Tuesday it had made a positive FID (final investment decision) to add two “midscale” trains to the Corpus Christi LNG facility in South Texas.

The Houston, Texas-based LNG producer “issued full notice to proceed to Bechtel Energy, Inc. for construction of CCL Midscale Trains 8 & 9”, a company statement said.

The two trains will raise the terminal’s capacity by over 3 million metric tons per annum (MMtpa). In July 2023 the United States Department of Energy (DOE) granted CCL Midscale Trains 8 & 9 authorization to export to countries with a free trade agreement (FTA) with the U.S.

The DOE has yet to grant the project a non-FTA permit. However, the agency has resumed issuing final orders on pending decisions paused by the previous administration last year, in support of President Donald Trump’s “unleashing American energy” agenda.

Trains 8 and 9 will rise next to CCL Stage 3, which is also under construction.

Decision finale d'investissement à 34 milliards de dollars pour le projet de terminal LNG CP2 phase1 de Venture Global . Capacité prévue de 28 millions de tonnes de LNG par an.
Venture Global Goes All-In With $15 Billion CP2 LNG Bet

By Julianne Geiger - Jul 28, 2025,

Venture Global has officially reached a final investment decision and financial close for Phase 1 of its CP2 LNG project and the associated CP Express Pipeline, securing $15.1 billion in debt-only financing, the company said on Monday. The move formally launches the company’s third LNG export project and puts it on track to become the largest U.S. LNG exporter by capacity.

CP2’s Phase 1, expected online in 2027, will add up to 28 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of peak output. Long-term contracts are already locked in with buyers across Europe, Asia, and other global markets. This phase alone brings Venture Global’s total contracted capacity across its three projects—Calcasieu Pass, Plaquemines LNG, and CP2—to 43.5 MTPA.

The financing drew over $34 billion in commitments from major international banks, making it the largest single-tranche project financing in U.S. LNG history. Notably, it required no outside equity investment. CEO Mike Sabel credited early-stage investments and aggressive pre-FID work for enabling the rapid pace, calling CP2 the most advanced project at FID the company has undertaken.

The CP2 green light marks Venture Global’s fourth FID in under six years, bringing its total capital raised to over $80 billion. That kind of scale cements its emergence as a heavyweight in the U.S. gas export business. The CP Express Pipeline will move gas from the Perryville Hub to the terminal site in Cameron Parish, Louisiana, integrating with the broader Gulf Coast LNG infrastructure.

With this announcement, Venture Global is poised to overtake Cheniere in nameplate capacity by the end of the decade—assuming Plaquemines and CP2 ramp up as scheduled. Its modular build approach has allowed for faster timelines and early-stage production even before full mechanical completion.

The timing couldn’t be better. With global LNG demand rising and Europe eager to diversify away from Russian gas and meet its new trade deal with the US, CP2 positions Venture Global at the center of the next phase in U.S. gas dominance.

le projet CP2 sera juste à coté du premier projet de Calcasieu.
Venture Global CP2 LNG
We are in an advanced stage of engineering with major procurement work underway for the CP2 LNG Project.

CP2 LNG will build, own and operate a liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facility with an export capacity of at least 20 MTPA.

The CP2 LNG terminal will be located on an approximately 1,150 acre site in Cameron Parish, Louisiana. The CP Express pipeline will originate in Jasper and Newton County, Texas and feed natural gas to the proposed LNG facility in Cameron Parish, Louisiana.

Project Location
The CP2 LNG terminal facility will be located on an approximately 1,150 acre site adjacent to Venture Global’s Calcasieu Pass LNG facility in Cameron Parish, Louisiana. The associated marine facility will be located on Monkey Island, between the Calcasieu Ship Channel and Calcasieu Pass. The proposed CP Express natural gas pipeline will originate in Jasper County, Texas and pass through Newton County, Texas and Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana before it ends at the CP2 LNG terminal in Cameron Parish.

Key Features
Nameplate 20 MTPA liquefaction capacity using single mixed refrigerant technology
Thirty-six 0.626 MTPA liquefaction trains, configured in eighteen blocks
Four 200,000 m3 full containment LNG storage tanks
Two marine loading berths
An on-site combined cycle gas turbine power plant with a nameplate capacity of 1,440 MW (~720 MW peak per phase)
Similar equipment to Venture Global’s Calcasieu Pass LNG and Plaquemines LNG facilities

Image

CP Express

CP Express will build, own and operate a new 48-inch-diameter pipeline approximately 85.4 miles in length and a new 24-inch diameter lateral pipeline approximately 6.0 miles in length, connecting the CP2 LNG terminal to the existing natural gas pipeline grid in east Texas and southwest Louisiana. One new compressor station is proposed to be constructed near Moss Lake, Louisiana.

The proposed route for the CP Express natural gas pipeline was developed using the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) routing guidelines. Considerations including safety, environment, land-use compatibility, constructability, environmental justice and cultural resources were all central to route planning.

et tout çà risque fort de permettre entre autre des exportations de LNG vers l'Europe dans quelques années suite aux accords douanier entre Trump et l' UE de ces derniers jours.
