Saipem awarded an offshore EPC contract in Qatar worth approximately 4 billion USD

Saipem has been awarded an offshore EPC contract by QatarEnergy LNG for the Combined COMP3A & COMP3B of the North Field Production Sustainability Offshore Compression Program, aimed at sustaining the production of the North Field offshore natural gas reservoir, located offshore the north-east coast of Qatar. The contract value amounts to approximately 4 billion USD.

Saipem’s scope of work encompasses the engineering, procurement, fabrication and installation of six platforms as well as approximately 100 km of corrosion resistance alloy rigid subsea pipelines of 28’’ and 24’’ diameter, 100 km of subsea composite cables, 150 km of fiber optic cables and several other subsea facilities.

This important contract follows the EPC package for the North Field Production Sustainability Offshore Compression Complexes Project - [COMP 2], awarded to Saipem in October 2022 and currently being executed.

This project further consolidates Saipem’s position and track record in Qatar.

QatarEnergy Inaugurates Four LNG Carriers

QatarEnergy said Thursday it had held naming ceremonies to inaugurate four of the dozens of conventional-size liquefied natural gas (LNG) vessels it had ordered from South Korean builders.

Three of the newly inaugurated ships, named “Lebrethah”, “Nuaijah” and “Umm Swayyah”, mark the first deliveries by Hanwha Ocean Co. Ltd. under QatarEnergy’s LNG fleet expansion program, state-owned QatarEnergy said in a statement.

“This is a historic moment as these three LNG vessels prepare to set sail on their missions across the globe, providing a cleaner and more economic source of energy, and are equipped with state-of-the-art technologies to achieve optimal fuel efficiency and reduce emissions”, Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, president and chief executive of QatarEnergy and energy minister of Qatar, told one of the two separate ceremonies in Geoje, according to the online statement.

The other ship, named “Id’asah”, will also be the first delivery by Samsung Heavy Industries Co. Ltd. under the program, QatarEnergy said.

Accord pour la fourniture de GNL du Qatar à la Chine

Le Qatar va fournir trois millions de tonnes de gaz par an à la Chine selon les termes d'un accord avec Shell, basé à Londres, a annoncé lundi la société énergétique publique de l'émirat.

Les livraisons de gaz naturel liquéfié (GNL) vont commencer en janvier 2025 comme le prévoit un "nouvel accord de vente et d'achat à long terme", a déclaré QatarEnergy dans un communiqué, sans révéler la durée précise de l'accord.

"Nous sommes heureux de conclure ce nouvel accord à long terme avec notre partenaire, Shell. Cet accord permet de répondre aux exigences des clients de Shell en Chine et renforce notre contribution à la satisfaction des besoins des clients dans le monde entier ", a déclaré, dans le communiqué, le ministre de l'Energie, Saad al-Kaabi, qui est également le directeur général de QatarEnergy.

L'Asie, principal marché du gaz qatari
Le Qatar est l'un des principaux producteurs mondiaux de GNL, aux côtés des États-Unis, de l'Australie et de la Russie.

Les pays asiatiques, avec la Chine, le Japon et la Corée du sud, sont le principal marché du gaz qatari, mais la demande a également augmenté dans les pays européens depuis que la guerre de la Russie contre l'Ukraine a affecté les approvisionnements russes.

Ces dernières années, le Qatar a conclu d'autres accords d'approvisionnement en GNL à long terme avec Total (France), Shell, Petronet (Inde) et Eni (Italie), entre autres, dont la plupart ont une durée de 27 ans. Un premier accord a été conclu en 2022 avec Sinopec (Chine).
