Saipem awarded an offshore EPC contract in Qatar worth approximately 4 billion USD

Saipem has been awarded an offshore EPC contract by QatarEnergy LNG for the Combined COMP3A & COMP3B of the North Field Production Sustainability Offshore Compression Program, aimed at sustaining the production of the North Field offshore natural gas reservoir, located offshore the north-east coast of Qatar. The contract value amounts to approximately 4 billion USD.

Saipem’s scope of work encompasses the engineering, procurement, fabrication and installation of six platforms as well as approximately 100 km of corrosion resistance alloy rigid subsea pipelines of 28’’ and 24’’ diameter, 100 km of subsea composite cables, 150 km of fiber optic cables and several other subsea facilities.

This important contract follows the EPC package for the North Field Production Sustainability Offshore Compression Complexes Project - [COMP 2], awarded to Saipem in October 2022 and currently being executed.

This project further consolidates Saipem’s position and track record in Qatar.

QatarEnergy Inaugurates Four LNG Carriers

QatarEnergy said Thursday it had held naming ceremonies to inaugurate four of the dozens of conventional-size liquefied natural gas (LNG) vessels it had ordered from South Korean builders.

Three of the newly inaugurated ships, named “Lebrethah”, “Nuaijah” and “Umm Swayyah”, mark the first deliveries by Hanwha Ocean Co. Ltd. under QatarEnergy’s LNG fleet expansion program, state-owned QatarEnergy said in a statement.

“This is a historic moment as these three LNG vessels prepare to set sail on their missions across the globe, providing a cleaner and more economic source of energy, and are equipped with state-of-the-art technologies to achieve optimal fuel efficiency and reduce emissions”, Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, president and chief executive of QatarEnergy and energy minister of Qatar, told one of the two separate ceremonies in Geoje, according to the online statement.

The other ship, named “Id’asah”, will also be the first delivery by Samsung Heavy Industries Co. Ltd. under the program, QatarEnergy said.

Accord pour la fourniture de GNL du Qatar à la Chine

Le Qatar va fournir trois millions de tonnes de gaz par an à la Chine selon les termes d'un accord avec Shell, basé à Londres, a annoncé lundi la société énergétique publique de l'émirat.

Les livraisons de gaz naturel liquéfié (GNL) vont commencer en janvier 2025 comme le prévoit un "nouvel accord de vente et d'achat à long terme", a déclaré QatarEnergy dans un communiqué, sans révéler la durée précise de l'accord.

"Nous sommes heureux de conclure ce nouvel accord à long terme avec notre partenaire, Shell. Cet accord permet de répondre aux exigences des clients de Shell en Chine et renforce notre contribution à la satisfaction des besoins des clients dans le monde entier ", a déclaré, dans le communiqué, le ministre de l'Energie, Saad al-Kaabi, qui est également le directeur général de QatarEnergy.

L'Asie, principal marché du gaz qatari
Le Qatar est l'un des principaux producteurs mondiaux de GNL, aux côtés des États-Unis, de l'Australie et de la Russie.

Les pays asiatiques, avec la Chine, le Japon et la Corée du sud, sont le principal marché du gaz qatari, mais la demande a également augmenté dans les pays européens depuis que la guerre de la Russie contre l'Ukraine a affecté les approvisionnements russes.

Ces dernières années, le Qatar a conclu d'autres accords d'approvisionnement en GNL à long terme avec Total (France), Shell, Petronet (Inde) et Eni (Italie), entre autres, dont la plupart ont une durée de 27 ans. Un premier accord a été conclu en 2022 avec Sinopec (Chine).

Technip Energies Wins Engineering Contract for QatarEnergy LNG Project

Technip Energies has been awarded a detailed engineering and design contract by Larsen & Toubro Limited's Hydrocarbon business for a QatarEnergy LNG project in the North Field concession offshore Qatar.

The project is named the North Field Production Sustainability Offshore Compression Project, of which Technip has completed the front-end engineering and design (FEED) phase, the company said in a news release.

Technip defined the contract as “significant,” which it defined as representing revenue between $56.5 million and 282.5 million (EUR 50 million and 250 million).

Under the contract, Technip Energies will provide detailed engineering design for two offshore compression complexes. Each complex will consist of large offshore platforms, flare platforms, interconnected bridges, and other associated structures, according to the release.

Marco Villa, Chief Business Officer of Technip Energies, said, "We are pleased to be entrusted by L&T and QatarEnergy LNG for the detailed engineering design of the NFPS COMP 4 project. This selection highlights the confidence and trust in our engineering expertise and Technip Energies’ established capability to support Qatar’s energy security, ambitious projects and objectives”.

Au Qatar, le GNL issu de l’expansion du plus grand champ gazier au monde sera exporté dès mi-2026
Le North field west, plus grand champ gazier de la planète situé sous le golfe Persique, verra sa production augmenter et les premières exportations commencer mi-2026.

Le Qatar commencera à la mi-2026 à exporter du gaz naturel liquéfié (GNL) issu de son projet d’expansion de production du plus grand champ gazier naturel au monde, le North field west, a annoncé mardi 20 mai, à l’occasion du Forum économique du Qatar à Doha, le ministre de l’Énergie Saad al-Kaabi, qui est également le directeur général de Qatar energy. L’augmentation de la production sur ce champ, qui s’étend sous le golfe Persique jusqu’au territoire iranien, devrait porter la capacité de production totale du Qatar à 142 millions de tonnes par an d’ici 2030.

Une nouvelle expansion à North field south et North field west, censée être achevée d’ici la fin de la décennie, interviendra dans la foulée.

Le Qatar est l’un des principaux producteurs de gaz au monde au côté des États-Unis, de l’Australie et de la Russie. Les pays asiatiques, menés par la Chine, le Japon et la Corée du Sud, ont été le principal marché pour le gaz qatari mais la demande a également augmenté de la part des pays européens depuis que la guerre entre la Russie et l’Ukraine a remis en cause les approvisionnements.

Une « grande relation avec la Chine »

Ces dernières années, le Qatar a conclu d’autres accords à long terme de GNL avec notamment le français TotalEnergies, le britannique Shell, l’indien Petronet et l’italien Eni, dont beaucoup ont une durée record de 27 ans.

Saad al-Kaabi a souligné que le Qatar avait une grande relation avec la Chine . Le premier accord GNL avait été signé avec le groupe chinois Sinopec en 2022. Nous sommes le plus grand fournisseur de la Chine, et ils sont notre plus grand acheteur. Ils discutent avec nous de volumes supplémentaires, tout comme l’Inde, ainsi que de nombreux autres pays , a ajouté le ministre qatari de l’Énergie.
